Despite the new name, the hospital says it will maintain its commitment to the community. It will also continue to invest in the local area, with a $63.5 million expansion currently underway. This includes a new patient tower that will add 60 private rooms, eight intensive care unit beds, and 44 medical, surgical, and telemetry beds. The project is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2022.
The new MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena will also have a state-of-the-art radiation oncology department, which is expected to open in 2020. This will provide patients with access to Michigan Medicine expertise in a safe and comfortable environment close to home. The facility is already a designated Federal Tort Claims Act Deemed Facility for Medicare beneficiaries, and it is expected to be approved for Medicaid Deemed status as well. This means that Medicare will pay for services, and Michigan Medicaid will reimburse the facility for medically necessary care.
