Recently, the facility received a good patient experience rating from CMS. Out of the six categories, the facility scored well above the national average in four and on par with Michigan’s for the other two. In the category ‘patient safety,’ the facility scored above the national average in all but one of the measures and was below the state average in just one measure.
MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena President Mike Erickson was pleased with the results. He says he shared the ratings with the board of directors on Thursday and is optimistic that they will be even better next year. He also said that the hospital is working to improve its score with Leapfrog, a group that grades hospitals on safety. The organization has been criticizing MyMichigan for problems with its survey submissions and he is confident the facility will receive an A next year.
Besides the great health care, Alpena is a nice small town to live in. The area is right on the water and there are many different activities to take part in. The town is safe and a great place to raise a family. Kids are encouraged to get involved in the community and participate in sports, arts and crafts and other community events. It’s a good ol’ country town with plenty of small town gossip and judgmental bible thumpers.
