Alpena Health Center Receives High Marks From CMS

A non-profit community health center, alpena health center has been providing medical, dental and pharmacy services since its inception. It follows a patient-centered medical home model of care and has locations throughout northern Michigan. Each location strives to provide individualized care for patients of all ages. Dedicated to HRSA compliance and transparency of quality metrics, the organization is committed to continuously enhancing their operations.

The health center has received high marks in each of the five categories CMS used to rate hospitals. In the ‘Safety of Care’ category, alpena health center scored above the national average in all four measures and was the only hospital in northeast Michigan to do so. The ‘Patient Experience’ category saw the health center above the national average in six of 10 measured areas. Similarly, the health center was above the national average in the ‘Patient-Centered Outcomes’ category.

In the ‘Timing of Care’ and ‘Accommodations’ categories, alpena health center was above the national average in all three measured areas. Moreover, in the ‘Patient Assessment of Discharge Planning’ and ‘Continuity of Care’ categories, the health center was above the national average by an additional two percentage points. Michael Erickson, the president of MyMichigan Health Centers, says that the ratings are a reflection of the efforts of everyone at the hospital. He hopes to see MyMichigan medical center Alpena receive the highest possible score on the Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital safety report, which is expected to be released next year.

While it is important to keep in mind that the health center is not a full-service medical facility, it does have a large variety of primary and specialist physicians available on its website. The company also offers free telehealth appointments. Those who have been scheduled for an appointment should make sure that they come prepared with their insurance card and any other relevant information. It is also helpful to bring a list of current medications.

The health center’s offices are open Monday through Friday. For emergencies, call 911 or visit the nearest emergency room. If you are a patient of the health center and need to contact a doctor after hours, call your provider’s office number and choose option 8.
