Volunteer Opportunities Blood Drives Volunteers help with blood drives in several areas, schedule appointments and assist the American Red Cross with registration and canteen services. ARMC sponsors four blood drives a year. Lobby Greeter Lobby Greeters are recognized as the first point of contact for many customers of Alpena Regional Medical Center. They welcome customers to our facility and offer wheelchair assistance and/or escort services. Information Services Located in the main lobby of the hospital, these volunteers provide room numbers to patient visitors, directions to departments throughout the hospital & deliver mail to patient rooms. The Gift Corner The Gift Corner is staffed by volunteers. The shop is open seven days a week and utilizes volunteers with an aptitude in retail sales. All proceeds from the Gift Corner are donated to ARMC. Surgical Lounge Volunteers in this service provide comfort to family and friends of patients who are in surgery. Services include providing coffee, giving directions and when possible, finding the correct staff member to answer questions. Surgical Escort & Aide Transport surgical patients, in a wheelchair, to the front door for discharge. Emergency Department Escort Volunteers welcome customers to the ARMC Emergency Department and are flexible in assuming differing non-clinical roles as needed to provide optimum service. They direct patients & families to emergency care & help staff as requested. Courtesy Van Transport Volunteers provide transport service to anyone from the hospital parking area to and from the building entrance via a minivan. Cancer Center Clerical Assistant - assist in the Cancer Center with an array of miscellaneous office activities. Reception Clerk - supplies information & directions to visitors and outpatients, update computer data, place reminder calls of appointments to patients. Health Resource Center (Library) The Library in the Health Resource Center was funded by the ARMC Auxilians. This community lending library offers professional and consumer health information. Volunteers provide accurate directions and information to patients and visitors, assist the librarian with clerical duties, computer skills, searches, and issuance of library cards. Clinic Volunteers Clinic volunteers help the staff and patients of the Oncology, Nephrology, Cardiac Rehab, Neurology, Dialysis, Pain, Sleep, and Autologous clinics. They escort and/or register patients and help out however they are needed. Knitting/Sewing Knitted and crocheted caps and booties for newborns, handmade infant IV gowns, comfort pillows, dolls, puppets, toe-cast covers, lap robes, and afghans are just some of the items our volunteers make in their homes for the comfort of ARMC patients. Additional Services Include: Children’s Surgery Tour, Lifestyle Wellness Aides, Pediatric Support Volunteer, Beverage Café.
